We meet people where we are. And if where we are is aligned with what we love, well then, we might just end up spending our time doing interesting things with unique people who get us. About a decade ago when I was still serving on the board for Salt Lake Modern, a division of the then, Utah Heritage Foundation, (now Preservation Utah). Rosalie and I met over the love of learning, architecture, community, and all things mod. The proud owner, and caring steward of a quintessential Cliff May (lovingly referred to as the father of the mid-century ranch home) property in Olympus Cove.
And now here we are, all these years later still enjoying the embodiment of a house well designed and honestly built. A place that oriented its windows to the mountains, its bedrooms toward the garden and its side view to downtown. And inside, open in all the right places and cozy just where it counts.
When we think about what we love regarding home, it's not just how our hearts sing when we see how good houses welcome home our friends, too. Or how nature is not kept out for one second. Or how we feel both safe and connected to the essence of a well built structure-- it seems to me, that what we really love about these houses-- is how they continue to introduce us to ourselves, every time we walk in the door. Nice to meet you.
And welcome Home.
