Every now and again, some like-minded Salt Lakers will conceive of an idea that makes us giddy to the COLLECTIVE core. Uncommon Modern is one such idea, and we're thrilled to help however we can...but we'd love for you to join the effort, too. In short, Uncommon Modern will be a rotating exhibition and, ultimately, a book--beautifully laid-out and similarly explained--that serves to catalog and educate on Salt Lake Valley's collection of modernist architecture. Steeped with anticipation just yet? Same. Same. We'll say more...
Thing is, our valley is teeming with thankworthy architecture. Whether we've casually cruised by without noticing, or stopped to gape at every last flat roof or unadorned facade...those structures that stand as quiet examples of beautiful, modernist architecture mark a significant place in SLC's built environment. But before a book can be published and the public and be duly educated, inventory must be taken. And that's where you come in. Organizers need our help in finding and photographing these structures. They're everywhere. Let's do this.
Please join us tomorrow night, right here at our COLLECTIVE Headquarters. We'll gather with the organizers and SL Modern, drink some wine, chat about the significance of documenting Salt Lake's modern architecture, and have a brief tutorial about how we can all contribute with nothing more than our smart phones (technology!) Details below. Come over! Be a part of this sensational project!
