The House That Love Built

For over thirty years, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Intermountain Area (RMHC) has championed compassion for their guests from far and wide.

Having served hundreds of families year round, this extraordinary place provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families with pediatric children who are being seen at our local hospitals. Upholding the mission of “keeping families close,” RMHC provides families with the support and resources they need so that they can focus more on what truly matters-- quality time with their family and supporting the health of their child.

Here, love is the strongest medicine.

“Being a single parent is hard, but being a single parent of a child with disabilities and medical issues is hard and isolating," said Brandy Villagomez, a guest at RMHC. "When we left our home hospital in Oregon, we lost a big part of our support system. The moment we walked in the door, I felt relief. RMHC gave me support as a parent, made Katie feel loved and supported and provided a crucial resource that we need when we travel for appointments. RMHC is so much more than just a place to stay. It’s a family.”

With such a strong sense of community, RMHC is so much more than a place of lodging. It is a healing space for parents and children alike, and being able to experience a bit of normalcy in our world is more important than ever.

Brandy spoke to the unique benefits RMHC helps to provide. ”They give our kids experiences that they may not get otherwise due to health issues and illness. Ivan’s carnival, visits from the zoo, Disney on Ice tickets, Ollie visits and so much more.”

All of these experiences are largely provided by local individuals and businesses. Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has." So we, at cityhome, would like to invite everyone to join us in extending love and support to a cause like the Ronald McDonald House Charities. We’ll see you in the kitchen, chef hats on and spatulas at the ready.

"RMHC allowed our focus to be on the wellbeing of our children. I'm returning to Peru with a heart full of gratitude!" - Cinthya Mendoza
