Some of life’s best moments are accompanied by a cup of something good. Whether it’s catching up with some pals, finally writing your novel, or relishing in an all-too-infrequent day off, the right cuppa feels like a cozy embrace—a warm welcome to your favorite place. It’s a state that we’ve oft longed to lounge all day, and now, thanks to a new teahouse on Ogden’s historic 25th Street, we can.
It’s aptly titled Cuppa, and it’s the vision of Nate and Rebecca Sato. Their tagline: “gather. nourish. create.” Sound dreamy? Appropriate, considering the idea was born from one. After Rebecca woke from a dream wherein she stumbled upon a mid-canyon retreat called “Writer’s Cuppa,” she knew she had to make the space a reality. And when she found a perfectly light and bright (and perfectly available) building on 25th, she knew it was the place.
When designing Cuppa, Rebecca pulled from her time spent in Sweden, and the Scandinavian influence is apparent from your first step through the door. Also apparent? The heavenly smell wafting from the many corked glass bottles containing Cuppa’s wide array of teas (patrons are invited to smell each before selecting one to sip on). Aside from the tea, the spot sports coffee and a menu of treats that’s entirely organic and plant-based (the Sloppy Jack, made with BBQ jackfruit, is especially to die for).
And since—along with being a vegan eatery, teahouse, and coffee shop—Cuppa is also a "cafe for creatives", Rebecca and Nate wanted to make sure local artisans had a place to showcase their wares. The space plays host to musicians, dancers, visual artists, poets, and even software designers on the regular. The grand piano on the mezzanine beckons any and all to play, and every Friday night they stay open late for live music. Really, Cuppa welcomes anyone with a story to tell.
Gather. Nourish. Create.
It’s simple: promoting local artists and supporting the creative process is Cuppa’s main objective. This is a spot that’s doing right by locals—mind, body, and spirit. And the result? Well, it's like a dream.
