Pardon our self-appointed back-pat, but SLC is no small potatoes these days. Our salty streets are churning out more successful entrepreneurs, eateries, small businesses, and startups than you can shake a stick at. Buy local, we say. All local all the time. In our COLLECTIVE effort to immerse ourselves in the homegrown goods, we found ourselves enveloped in the beauty that is CRUDE Oil. And thank God we did.

Essentially, they're more beneficial, and support the skin's natural defenses.

This stuff is what dewy, glowy, can't-believe-you're-how-old? dreams are made of. Our COLLECTIVE pal and SLC native, Denise Cartwright, founded CRUDE less than two years ago, in April 2014. As a master aesthetician, Denise was fully involved in helping others repair their skin, but she wasn’t getting the results she hoped for. Denise read an article one day in 2013 about oil cleansing, and that was the first drop of water to help the CRUDE seed blossom. Most skin treatments on the market result in stripping, scrubbing, and drying out of the skin, and end up causing inflammation. Many of these products also make it harder for your skin to do what it knows best: heal, renew, and regenerate. CRUDE takes a different, more holistic approach to skincare; their line of products (including oil and clay gentle cleansers) work with the skin and its natural regenerative system. Essentially, they're more beneficial, and support the skin's natural defenses.

Fellas, this stuff is for you, too.

CRUDE's most popular product is the Starter Kit, which comes with 1 oz. of the Everything Oil, 1 oz. of Detox Mask, and three pull cloths (this the simplest, most cost-effective system to get rolling, but it’s also pure facial gold). The oil and pull cloths are used to cleanse and moisturize, while the detox mask exfoliates and replenishes the skin. Having used this product for the last few months--after spending all sorts of cash on every type of skincare product out there--I can vouch for the brilliance that comes from using this system. My favorite product is the Bloom Regenerative Facial Oil. (Fellas, this stuff is for you, too, as well as their Scruff Beard and Face Oil).

Supporting local with healthy skin, body, and soul

Thanks to social media and the tight-knit word-of-mouth community here in SLC, people are taking notice by the masses to this stellar, locally-grown, skincare regimen. Since 2014, CRUDE has expanded exponentially. Denise & co. produce the products in Artspace Commons, and although they are based in our own backyard, they ship their good-as-gold goods anywhere in the world. For now, Denise has chosen to keep CRUDE out of large retailers, featuring her products only in small, local businesses that resonate with the values of CRUDE. (Current retailers include Vive Juicery, Mineral and Matter, Greenspace Salon, and Flight Boutique.) Denise strives to be a positive force in the beauty industry, and--since she has founded a skincare line that is focused on your skin, not hype or false promises--we'd say she's doing a bang-up job of it. She continues to develop CRUDE’s blog, keeping her loyal followers up-t0-speed with the latest information on skincare, and hopes to expand it to further information on holistic beauty, green living DIY, body positivity, feminism, and sustainability (and she is also working on creating more products to add to her current list, including a soap-free body wash). Supporting local with healthy skin, body, and soul is kind of our jam. Lucky for us, we have CRUDE Oil for all ventures. After all, the meaning of the crude is “in a natural state”, and, in the immortal words of Aubrey Graham: "Sweatpants, hair tied, chillin' with no makeup on--that's when you're the prettiest, I hope that you don't take it wrong."
