Whether it’s an outfit or an office, we live for design that incorporates curated bits of both old and new. A pre-owned piece is oft the perfect complement to a more modern one, and everybody knows there’s something scrumptious about an object that’s worn-in in all the right ways. There’s a slew of hand-me-down treasures to be found in this city--if you know where to look. Whether you’re looking to lessen your carbon footprint or simply get goods on the cheap, from home furnishings to threads, we’ve got the guide to some of SLC’s best consignment spots…

The Green Ant: If Eames, Jacobsen, and Saarinen get you all hot and bothered, you’ll want to make stops at the Green Ant a regular occurrence, as you never know when a new gem might be unearthed. Here, you’re guaranteed to find exquisite, mid-century, not-to-be-found at Target furniture at its finest…and your living room will thank you. 179 E 300 S, Mon - Sat 11:00a - 6pm

Name Droppers: This haute spot is brimming with name brand delights, from YSL to Chanel, for a fraction of the original price. Whether you’re hunting for designer bags, shoes, belts, or threads, Name Droppers has a selection that’ll keep you coming back and combing through it, week after week. (Bonus: if you’ve recently cleaned out your closet and found yourself sitting on some long-since-worn threads, Name Droppers also purchases select pieces.) 3355 S Highland Dr., hours vary

Decades Vintage Clothing: The vibe of this State Street spot is akin to the dress-up trunk of our childhood dreams. Whether you’re looking for a crushed-velvet tuxedo, an ‘80s prom dress, or a pair of bright red cowboy boots, chances are you’ve come to the right place. Fair warning: save your visit for a day when you have some serious time to spare, as this space is massive and the racks—each stuffed with beaded and bedazzled goods—are plenty. 627 State St., Mon - Sat 11:00a - 6:00p, Sun 12:00p - 5:00p

George's Demolition & Salvage: When it comes to housewares, this Harvey Milk Blvd. shop is known for having everything AND the kitchen sink—literally. Whether you’re looking for a cool, retro doorknob, a window (!), or an intricately detailed wrought-iron door, owner, George, has it. Seasoned picker pros will bring boots, gloves, and tools, as this shop is equal parts salvage yard and vintage store. Renovators and yesteryear lovers will revel in the treasures packed into these shelves, and—if you ask us—the hunt is half the fun. 470 E 900 S, hours vary

Capital City Antique Mall: Whatever decorative piece you seek, it’s probable that Capitol City Antique Mall has it. This warehouse-style building is brimming with booths touting vintage nicknacks, bric-a-brak, and chachkies of all sorts. From figurines to rotary phones, and rugs to chandeliers, this place—frequented by our own cityhomeDESIGN divison—is a bit like a museum store room, only here you’re encouraged to take a bit of history home when you leave. 959 S W Temple, Mon - Sat 10:00a - 6:00p, Sun 11:00a - 5:00p

Vantage: A relatively new addition to our salty scene, the racks at Vantage are teeming with retro gear of days not-so-long since passed (think ‘80s thru early aughts). Vintage Guess and Tommy Hilfiger, soft-as-butta band tees, retro Jazz gear, and general "kids from Stranger Things"-style apparel dot these shelves 'n' racks, and the nostalgia levels are oh-so-right. 774 E 800 S, daily 11:00a - 8:00p
