While our little COLLECTIVE is comprised of folks of all different ages, creeds, and schools of thought, there is one issue that we're all unquestionably on board with. See, it's our thinking that human rights are for everybody (what a concept, huh?).
And yes, being a gay-owned business, the topic of LGBTQ rights hits particularly close to our home. We know that the last few years have seen some big strides in the direction of fairness, love, and respect for all human beings...but we also know that we've seen some rather large setbacks. But we're not here to discuss that.
We're here to discuss what you can do to help.
Chances are you've heard of the Human Rights Campaign (or at least seen their little blue and yellow equals sign stickers plastered around town). The HRC serves as "America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve LGBTQ equality," and is compiled of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. One of the loudest voices in the fight for our rights, the HRC "strives to end discrimination...and realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all."
So, they're throwing a fabulous party...
The annual HRC Gala is a night to celebrate success, give praise to deserving foot-soldiers, and to discuss next steps in the ongoing crusade for equality. It is also one of SLC's most happenin' black tie events. This year's honorees included Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy (2017 HRC Visibility Award) and Pat and Boyer Jarvis (HRC Allies for Equality Award). And, as always, crowd-pleaser DJ Young 1 will be on the 1s and 2s for all your fancy-footworkery.
Allies will converge for a night of dinner, dancing, happy tears, and--of course--cocktail hour (yahtzee)...
Proceeds from ticket sales and the night's silent auction will go towards funding HRC's mission to "ensure key legislation is passed so comprehensive, non-discrimination protections are finally available to all LGBTQ people in this country," so we think it goes without saying that this fabulous night supports a fabulous cause.
