Live, fresh food is still not as easy to come by as truly healthy SLC peeps might like. Food that maintains, plant-based nutrients - even once it's on your plate - still has yet to take hold, despite pretty-much innumerable health benefits. That said, we should all pray daily to SLC-local, Ian Brandt. Ian is the owner/creator of Sage’s, Vertical Diner, Cali’s Natural Food, and now Cafe SuperNatural...all of which share a focus on local, fresh, vegan, vegetarian, or raw food.
Cafe SuperNatural opened in 2011 in a dynamite little spot at Trolley Square [right next to Prana Yoga -- stop in after your class for a $5 smoothie offer]. It just so happens that every last delight on the menu is 100% gluten-free, vegan, and plant-based. Even better, they have a raw food section of the menu, and they're happy to whip up the fresh, raw vegetable juice of your liking. *Note: the SuperNatural Wrap [collard leaf stuffed with pâté, avocado and artisan sauerkraut], and the Machu Picchu [steamed potatoes & veggies with roasted chili cashew cream sauce] make us salivate equally. That said, there's a plethora of goodies to choose from, including salads, noodles, smoothies, lattes, and wine.
The space is a breath of fresh air in more ways than one. Clean and comfortable decor is marked by a clear and conscious effort to practice sustainability; SuperNatural has a zero-waste policy and runs on wind power. Reason enough to support a local business, alone, but they're giving it back in health. Win, win.
