JUGAR Fashion Show + SLDW Finale Cocktail Party
COLLECTIVE fingers crossed that you made it to some of the parties, tours, and panels over the last 5 days of Salt Lake Design Week. At the cost of sounding über redundant, this event -- intended to show the impact that all facets of design have on our city and people -- is one for creative and analytical thinkers, alike. It's a huge, inspiring nod to the talents of our fair city folk, and if you haven't been a part of it in some way, all is not lost. The end of this week-long illumination will be marked with a touch of raw impulse in the Granary District. We had a chat with the incomparable and adorable Gary Vlasic, who's been charged with curating the closing events -- two fashion shows and a cocktail party. Says he, "It's...really primal." Uh-huh. We're listening.
JUGAR -- a line of men's wear from the DJC Collection -- will set the literal stage for a fashion show both Friday and Saturday evening. The chosen spot? Under a freeway overpass at 900 S and 630 W. You'll likely not be able to miss it; according to Gary, they plan to light the hell out of this slightly-shifty underbelly, and they've juried students from the Art & Architecture Department of the University of Utah [24 of them] to build a custom stage for the locale. A few shots below will give you a general feel of the mood. The concept is guerrilla. No professional models, just a stage full of local dishes wearing the shit out of some seriously sexy men's active wear. Those of us at Pecha Kucha got a peek at the line...this isn't likely anything you've seen before.
After Saturday's show, the fun will come to a more official end in the form of a cocktail party with a campfire vibe. Set in the space for both Nobrow Coffee Werks and Atlas Architecture, and contained/covered by a modular, lit wall built by some architecture students at the U, we'll all consort and consume. Both studios will be open, and Atlas will display some chosen pieces from the JUGAR line. Thanks to goodly Gary and the other organizers, there will be beer, wine, and a bar with signature drinks by Scott Gardner of Finca. Add to that, some specialty coffee drinks by none other than Joe Evans, and you're all hydrated properly. DJ Benjamin Ma will set the tone, and the food will round out the woodsy/cozy mood: think gourmet s'mores, savory chutneys, roasted veggies, and a god damn hot dog bar. Join us. We'll be there, sipping a warm drink, chatting with chums, wrapped in an emergency blanket [seriously...they'll have those].
