A relatively short while back, we made mention of the new interdisciplinary dance troop, NOW. And -- at long last -- we're sharing in the excitement of the impending debut performance, The Wedding. It's here. The kickoff performance will explore the space of ritual [more specifically, it'll be "an exploration of the most public of private rituals"], and will be staged in the must-see Salt Lake City Masonic Temple.
According to one of the minds behind NOW, Nathan Webster, "The Wedding will showcase the talents of Ballet West’s Katherine Lawrence, and Joseph Blake, formerly of Ririe Woodbury, along with Joffrey Ballet’s Yumelia Garcia, and Ted Johnson, a NY based performer most recently seen in “Sleep No More". Yumellia and Ted have arrived in Zion, as has composer Yens Horsving, from Copenhagen, and all are working feverishly in their final preparations with locals Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Gary Vlasic, Jesse Walker [and so many more]. The performance is a collaborative and context-driven work where artists, theme, and the site itself generate many of the fundamental ideas for the project. All together, the various elements have already made for a highly charged, communal and resonant process. NOW come celebrate with us as we return the inspiration!"
COLLECTIVELY, we'll no doubt be in attendance. We trust the video below will make clear that this is not to be missed.
