The 2013 Salt Lake Green Homes Tour, courtesy of the US Green Building Council Utah Chapter, offered folks a peek into the new and remodeled, environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient homes of Salt Lake City. Talk about enlightening. With owner-provided descriptions that ranged from "anachronistic juxtaposition" to "comfortable", these spaces are much more than a simple treat for the eyes -- they also happen to be easy on the environment and the soul. Beneath the concrete, bamboo, and salvaged-warehouse flooring lies an epicenter of efficiency, productivity, and renewal. The power behind net-zero, solar and passive ratings looked like nothing more than a closet of pipes, tubes and tanks, and a roof of panels, shingles and plants...but put these systems together and you have high-performing, sustainable homes of the future. Impressive? Obviously. Inspiring? Absolutely. Let us all start spreading some green-design love.
Special 'thanks' to supporters SLC Green Homes, BD brach design Architecture, and sponsors Lloyd Architects, Wasatch Solar, Nexant, Landmark Home Warranty, Garbett, and Cucina Vanina for helping to make this happen.
