Tutus and leotards were never a part of my childhood wardrobe. Naturally then, when a friend suggested I try Xtend Barre as part of my weekly workout regime, I was a tad intimated. I'm not a dancer, but I finally gave in after the coaxing efforts of a few pals.
Located just west of Liberty Park, the Xtend Barre studio is owned and operated by active enthusiast and local, Hollie Strasburg [also a COLLECTIVE client], and it's the first of its kind here in Utah. Pilates- and dance-based, it essentially breaks down to an hour of fun, balance, strength, and poise, led by a few energetic and amazing instructors. The concept was created by Andrea Rogers, an integral member of the dance community, and the intent is to strengthen, lengthen, and stretch the body from the inside out. On your first visit, you may not be entirely in sync with the class. Luckily, it doesn't take long to pick up the moves and pace. I've been going to Xtend for a year or so, and each time I'm challenged; I work muscles I didn't know I had and leave perfectly exhausted from some intense cardio. The stellar classes are always different, and my rad instructors keep me amused. According to their website, the Xtend Barre workouts "sculpt the body proportionally so that all body parts are equally challenged". Sounds perfectly tough. Plus, all new clients can experience a complimentary first workout. As they say, 'Meet you at the Barre.'
