With every blog story that we write, every event we promote, and every fundraiser we attend, it becomes increasingly obvious that we're a bit bananas for mid-century modern architecture, in all her forms. When the opportunity arises for us to engage in a social event that both benefits a good cause and allows us to bask in the glow of some great architecture, we are--needless to say--all over it. One such opportunity is currently knocking. It's Salt Lake Modern's spring event, and it aims to be something special, indeed. As part of Utah Heritage Foundation's 50th Anniversary celebration, this event is being hosted by none other than Charles Phoenix: "Showman, Author, Humorist, and Ambassador of Americana". If you know what's good, you'll join in for the festivities and all-around mid-mod merriment at the retro-themed cake and cocktail party this Friday, May 20th. Come nosh on an all-American grilled cheese sandwich, some tasty cake, and a crafty cocktail (from our pals at Sugar House Distillery)--all served up with the colorful flamboyance of Mr. Phoenix. There will also be vintage jazz, masterfully spun by DJ Old Sports, and exclusive access to the quintessential mid-century modern Putnam Residence in Holladay (which has been saved and is currently in the process of being beautifully rehabbed by one one of our COLLECTIVE own--hallelujah!). Vintage snaps of the dreamy space below...see it for yourself this Friday! Last year's event sold out, so get your tickets to this ab fab event while you can!
