Falecia Wilson, owner of Salon O and all-around stand up chick, has been in the beauty industry for a staggeringly-solid two decades [that’s since 1994 for all you non-mathletes]. Her love affair with the beauty industry began when she started her career as a salon consultant. According to Falecia, she loved the feeling it gave her “walking into a positive, creative, and fashion-forward salon.”
And with Salon O’s recent remodel, I had the opportunity to help Falecia create said positive/creative/all-around blissful environment in a salon all her own. Salon O caters to men and women alike, so it was crucial to create a balanced aesthetic that could appeal to the masculine and feminine in all of us. Working with the building’s existing industrial shell and playing up those strengths helped us create a first-rate foundation for layering on a touch of nostalgia.
Inspired by the salon’s vintage barber chairs [located in the wax rooms], we brought in Victorian-inspired wallpaper and timeless, tufted sofas [that oh-so-nicely juxtapose the raw concrete floors and exposed ceiling trusses]. Bringing in local craftsmen helped further the vision of bringing the vintage and industrial elements to life. Together we created the reception desk [using salvaged metal legs], the retail shelving [with egg & dart finish and a custom paint finish], and the “lather lounge” [with warm, reclaimed wood and mild steel].
This COLLECTIVE/O colab was the perfect storm for creating an amazingly hip space that does the edgy and vibrant staff of Salon O justice. Case in point: this spot just nabbed the KSL Local A-List Award for Best Hair Salon. Local voters can’t be wrong. Come for a blow-out...stay for one mighty fine interior design.
