If you've yet to hear the music of Mideau [pronounced Mid-oh], allow us to enlighten. It's a combination of the talents of two Salt Lake originals -- Libbie Linton and Spencer Harrison -- and it yields a vintage-esque, Indy-ish, kinda poppy, totally delicious sound. It'll be tough to put the proverbial finger on precisely what they sound like…but the raw talent will be obvious. Negative connotations with local bands be damned. They'll blow that out of the water [and it's really time that any stigmas get lost and we take pride in our local talent, anyhow]. We're not exactly talking small potatoes here. They’ve performed at the Provo Rooftop Series [for over 3000 people], and Libbie opened for the Doobie Brothers [!] at Red Butte Gardens, two name a couple. So, yeah. They got gigs.
The two met in 2009, Spencer in the Provo-based band Fictionist and Libby working on her own album ‘Birds in the Bleak’. In a stroke of random fate, Spencer lent Libbie a capable hand in a live-show cover of one of her favorite tunes, 'Tonight You Belong To Me'. They totes clicked, and both desired a musical career that was more substantial, challenging, and ambitious. At some point, Spencer lived on the opposite side of the country, but they maintained a musical connection, writing songs together long-distance. "I don't really know how it worked out. We both have such a strange commitment to it," says Libbie. "These songs are like children; you want them to grow up right...and they end up different than you initially planned, but so much better." [both Spencer and Libbie are married, but not to one another]. All told, they've weathered changes and challenges, and stayed the course to bring the world their debut, self-titled album, produced by Nate Pyfer, and releasing Friday the 13th at Velour in Provo.
It’s a rare treat that Mideau performs live these days, with half the band currently residing on the other side of the nation…but the COLLECTIVE has managed to wrangle them for a private show that will be extended to our dear, beloved clients [email forthcoming, kids]. For all other listeners, check them out at Velour on the 13th, or just keep your ears peeled for album availability. Take a listen at the Soundcloud link below or peruse their website. We're excited for this one.
