As Salt Lake citizens, it’s easy to take our purple mountain majesties [that are, in fact, somewhat rare throughout the rest of this goodly nation] for granted. We’ve got the goods in just about every direction, and like most good things, they don’t stay good without a little help from their friends [them friends being us]. Lucky for us, Utah doesn’t take the preservation of our natural surroundings lightly, so there are a grip of ways that you can get in on the tree-hugging action.
This year marks lucky #12 for The Lone Peak Celebration, a benefit to support Save Our Canyons. For those not tapped into the green scene, Save Our Canyons is a Utah organization that was founded in 1972 “in response to the threat of urbanization of the Wasatch Mountains just outside of Salt Lake City”. The coalition is sworn to protect “the wildness and beauty of the Wasatch Mountains, canyons, and foothills.” Sound like your cup of kombucha? Don’t answer yet--the shindig will feature live music, small plates and apps [from local food and drink sponsors such as Epic Brewing, High West Distillery, and Proxy Co.--oh my!], and one hell of a view. The Lone Peak auction ain’t nothin to shake a stick at neither: a day of climbing, a fly fishing venture, a weekend getaway at a Wasatch cabin, and a private wildlife photography lesson with a NatGeo pro are all up for grabs [to name a few]. The gig kicks off Saturday, April 26th at local coffee haunt, Publik. Come on over. The canyons ain’t gonna save themselves.
