Take an old farmhouse, give it a stellar, modern makeover, and add some one-of-a-kind pieces and a fabulously-stylish couple...it's a bang-on recipe for good living. Meet Kara and Joel and their urban abode, ala us. When Virginia came across this little number in Joel and Kara's search for a space, she knew it was the right one. They had a need for a fun, unique space for entertaining and happy relaxing, and this was obviously the place to be. At first glance, this turn-of-the-century home's simplicity may not beckon the masses; open the front door, however, and you're welcomed by awe-inspiring barrel vault ceilings, custom lighting, and stunning, original hardwood floors. Not much was required to make this home their own -- most of the work was already done. They have, however, cleverly mixed up old uses of rooms to create a spacious, comfortable, sun-filled master and an amazingly swanky yet functional boudoir [a friend of theirs whipped up that dead sexy wookie painting...the featured wookie is Joel]. Kara's workshop was made whole with the addition of a one-of-a-kind work table [made by Joel].
Plans have also been drawn for an accessory dwelling unit and they're in the making for a zen/modern inspired backyard, pool and all. If renters get their way, this little piece of paradise will be available for the luckiest of lookers in the not too distant future. Oh, and in case you're wondering about the gems and exotic materials on display in the work room, those are for Kara's creative pursuit -- handmade clutches that turn heads. Style like this makes us thrilled to have them in our Salty City. Thanks for making it prettier, kids.
