There are folks that think there's not much to do in SLC--that our salty streets are a barren wasteland of cheap restaurant chains and early nights in. And then there are smart folks, such as yourselves, that know better. This bustling city of ours is simply busting with cultural events and goings on--one of the most well-known being the time-honored Gallery Stroll. Since 1983, the Salt Lake Gallery Association has been gathering "galleries and visual-arts related businesses" in order to "promote the best art Salt Lake City has to offer". Gallery Stroll is a 501(c)3 non-profit funded solely by sponsorships and grants, with the intention of promoting the crystal cool art scene we've got going on 'round these parts. The third Friday of every month, an applause-worthy handful of galleries and local business stay open late, "providing an opportunity for art enthusiasts to tour their exhibits after hours". You'd do well to patronize this fabulous event monthly, but this month in particular is one not to be missed--local ace photog, Jon Burkholz, will have some of his snazzy snaps on display. Jon has quite the eye, and his specialty happens to be very near and dear to our COLLECTIVE hearts: SLC cityscapes. Call us a bit biased, but we're already smitten.
Gallery Stroll is one of the coolest cultural occasions in our fair city (and did we mention that it's totally free?), so we highly suggest taking full advantage of this outstanding opportunity. The Stroll kicks off at 6:00pm and continues through 9:00pm (while some galleries remain open all day and stay open long into the wee hours). Come walk this Friday and support the Gallery Association's efforts to "remove intellectual, social, and physical barriers to the enjoyment and understanding of visual art, and encourage awareness of Salt Lake City's diverse visual art community". There's a bevvy of cultural events to take advantage of. Grab your people and let's get enriched, yo!
