If you’ve cruised by the corner of 1700 South and Main Street recently, you're probably already aware that big changes are underway in this little part of our salty world. Three (3!) new restaurants have been in the works for several months, and the first of them, Este Deli, recently opened its doors. As you've likely guessed, it’s a cold-cuttery of the highest order brought to you by the very same folks (namely Dave Heiblim) that founded Este Pizza. And, not unlike it's pie-slinging sister spot, the deli is serving up quirky decor, rad people, and the same top-notch level of food you've come to expect from an Este establishment.
For what it's worth, we took a COLLECTIVE lunch trip (see failed high fives and tasty hoagies below), and we can officially count ourselves big fans of several sandwiches on the menu. The hot, roast pork sandwich with sautéed broccoli rabe (yesss) is dialed to delicious perfection. Something cold you want? We suggest the Italian with cappacola, salami, and house dressing (you're welcome). Maybe meat isn't your deal…no big whoop. Get yourself an artichoke heart sandwich with red peppers, mozzarella, and arugula. Hard to beat. They've got the staples, but don't get stuck--you'll want to try everything they've got before you settle into routine. Best part: they're looking into the addition of a patio, so come summer, you'll be easy-breezin' with a sub and a smile. Put this new spot on your lunchtime list, folks. We trust you’ll be glad you did.
