Allie and her husband Jade are the kind of people you just want to get close to. With Allie’s big heart and big smile, we loved her so much we even convinced her to join our scrappy crew. So when she informed us of an opportunity for them in Virginia, one they couldn’t pass on, we were heartbroken. We understood but still . . . heartbroken. Partly because we knew how hard they’ve worked on their home and how much it’s come to mean to them.
They fell in love with this 1960s gem the moment they discovered it.
With its generous windows overlooking the valley (there’s a reason the road behind it is named Scenic), clean lines and a gorgeous, see-through fireplace, they saw the residence as the perfect example of Mid Century Modern design. For them, it checked all the boxes– architecturally-interesting, good use of space and an amazing yard, one that’s intimately connected to the indoors. Allie says one of the biggest things she’ll miss about her home is sitting in the shade of that lindon tree during summer watching her kids play.
In addition to the home’s restoration, they also improved upon it, including all new landscaping, solar panels plus the installation of a separate ADU at the rear of the property. With a full kitchen and bath, the studio makes the perfect spot for a home office, for extra income or for hosting family and friends.
Jade describes his home as an oasis in the city. He says there are few places in town where you can be close to it all– school, work, shopping, the canyons– while still feeling like you’re a million miles away when what you really need is peace and quiet.
They will miss this home. Will miss it deeply.
The quiet mornings by the fireplace during an early snow. Sunsets on the deck with friends bearing glasses of pinot. Bluey-inspired dance parties loud enough to rock the Kasbah. These are the memories that make a house home. And soon, it will be someone else’s turn to call it theirs– a sanctuary to reflect, to commune, to dance.
