First off, I need to thank Epic Brewery for getting me tipsy at noon on a Tuesday (in the name of tasting and business). It’s become quite clear to me that one of the perks of my involvement in opening a restaurant is the interaction with others who would like to be involved, as well. Enter Epic Brewery.
I’ve got three requirements for endorsing a product; especially for those that will, ultimately, be visible on a consumer level. Full disclosure, I first judge a book by its cover. It’s the blessing and curse of being an aesthetically-driven being. I’m just more comfortable in my life when the things around me are done well. If you’ve got multiple options for a great-tasting product, why not choose one that offers a great package, to boot? The importance of this aspect is simple: I believe in supporting companies who see the value in employing designers, artists and creatives to further their brand. Of the dozens of super beers that Epic offers, at least 20 of them have fantastically-designed labels. Check.
My second stipulation is that the product be local; locally-produced, locally-owned…really, just as local as possible. Epic is, literally, two blocks away from the COLLECTIVE in downtown Salt Lake. Locally-owned, locally-operated, and proud to be Utah-centered. Check.
The last one is palpable; it’s just got to be good. Actually, it should be a superior product. As hoped for, the Epic line is firing on all cylinders. Incredible-tasting (and delightfully-strong) beer, well-designed bottles, and a group of locals who get what they’re doing. Our restaurant tasting was a smashing success; with more than 20 beers that fit our branding and pleased the taste buds, we narrowed it down to the favorites with little trouble. Hopefully, you’ll be sipping your own in Pallet soon.
