Meet Haller Champo. This guy’s a sparkling example of the American Dream [the SLC dream, rather], and one crackerjack local. He came seven years ago in search of the good life, working his way to it via jobs in roofing and wintertime fishing along the way. Somewhere in the middle, he found himself seeking out a desk at the request of his wife. For five bucks, he did just that. Then he painted it, and the magic started to happen. When family and friends put guesses for the cost of the piece around ‘hundreds of dollars’, he answered the fortuitous call. Sparked by the notion and motivated by a particularly cold winter on the lake, Haller decided to open a furniture store. Some [his wife] thought him crazy, but he took the risk. A few spaces and a couple of business partners later, he’s landed at home in Granary District. And business is booming.
There’s an eclectic mix of salvaged, re-purposed, and vintage furniture/décor inside. Snarky, old typewriters and cameras, some mid-century furniture and art…the place is basically a treasure hunt. There’s also a newly-opened sister store — a women’s boutique — just next door. Haller is as well known for his good heart as he is his business sense. He’s no stranger to making something from nothing, and he’s looking to help others do the same wherever possible.
