2014 Heritage Awards

4/23/2014 | Amy Tibbals

Spring in Utah marks flowers in bloom, patio dining at all our favorite spots, and balmy temps of 60+ [and, subsequently, tank tops as far as the eye can see]. But the temperate climate of May heralds more than just picnics and premature sunburns--it’s time once more for the Utah Heritage Foundation’s annual Heritage Awards Dinner [hoorah!].

COLLECTIVELY one of our favorite yearly fetes, the Heritage Awards seek to give a posy to “building owners, companies and individuals who have shown the highest standard of preservation in their projects”. In short, the UHF aims to give some lovin’ to those that dole it out so sweetly to our city of salt. The UHF, for those not hip to it, is a key piece to the preservation puzzle of SLC, and they actively fight the good fight of keeping the historic structures of our streets squarely as they should be--on our streets. The organization spreads the good word on good architecture and spearheads a campaign to keep the folks of Salt Lake educated on the historical integrity of some seriously slick homes and buildings. The UHF plays a huge role in the paying of respects to SLC’s most praiseworthy buildings [and, on the hip side, they hold one of our nearest and dearest institutions, Salt Lake Modern, under their worthy umbrella].

The Heritage Awards are held to annually “recognize those projects, organizations, agencies, and individuals that exemplify the highest standards within the preservation movement”-- a worthwhile and hat-tippling portion of the larger Preservation Conference, which will see education sessions, speakers, and the Historic Homes Tour in Marmalade over the weekend. We think the entire cause warrants nothing if not a sturdy salute. This year’s dinner will take place at The Leonardo on Thursday, May 8th at 6 pm. The evening will consist of dinner, a silent auction, and loads of applause for 2014’s Heritage Award winners--and you can bet we’ll be there with bells on. A few shots below will give you a taste of last year's fun. Let the preservation commence!
