Cottonwood Circle | Mod is Good

  • May 9, 2016

    List Price: Sold

    Neighborhood: Holladay

Property Profile: 4,649 sq. ft. | 4 bed, 5 bath

Our Opinion: On this green earth, there are few natural phenomena more pleasing to the eye (and heart, and soul) than perfect symmetry. Balance. For whatever reason, the impression that that side is the same as this side leaves one with a feeling that all is right and purposeful and perfect. This Holladay home, tucked just so at the end of Cottonwood Circle, is one exceptional example of this rule. Designed by Utah’s own Georgius Young Cannon (you may recognize his handiwork: the Springville Carnegie Library and the Beehive House restoration, to name but a few) and built in 1963, the home is a perfectly-executed illustration of symmetry incarnate. From the stately brick entry, up the steps and through the courtyard, you enter through a completely captivating glass entryway. With glass on all sides and hallways stemming in all directions, it’s the classic mid-mod formal arrival. And the balance is just beginning. The whole space–from the drive to the entry to the backyard, and everywhere in between–is laid out with a pitch-perfect intention. Inside, you’ll be met with square foot after square foot of well-thought out (and just as well lit) space, and it extends all the way to the (spacious, tree-lined, amazing) back lot. With views from every-damn-where, this is the prime place for entertaining with the gusto of the good ol’ days (BYO cufflinks). In this space, the host reigns supreme, and it’s all about the party. In our opinion, this home is about as fabulous as they come, but since it’s been nearly-untouched since day one, there’s still more than enough room for you to make some tweaks and make it yours (oh, but the bones of this place are sooo worth preserving properly…if you need some help, please let us know). This is quintessential mid-century grandeur sans the ostentatious exterior. A swanky soiree with a heart of gold, and you’ll feel right at home.
