If you’ve been in the market for a home over the last few months, you can attest to the fact that homes are flying off the shelves in a sort of frenzy that would put the Tickle Me Elmo craze of ’96 to shame. This summer has been bananas, and houses have been going and going fast. As you’ve probably witnessed on the pages of this very site, our own listings are no exception–more often than not, they’re going under contract the first weekend, and some have even seen upwards of 14 offers in that time (for real). According to Salt Lake Realtor Magazine, days on market in Salt Lake County are down 50% from last year, and median sales price is up 6%. What does this mean for you? Time to sell, y’all! But truth is, even though it’s possible you’ll get multiple offers and go under contract in the first weekend, selling a house still takes time. There are banks, loan officers, inspections, appraisals, and deadlines galore (not to worry…we’ll handle the tough stuff for you), and most home sales finalize at least a month after going under contract.
That means if you’re thinking about selling, and want to be in your new space before school starts/first snowfall/the holidays, the time to list doesn’t get better than right now. It may be hotter than blazes outside, sure, but stores have already swapped out slip ‘n’ slides for school supplies, and the leaves will be changing before you know it.
