Thayer Coggin + Milo Baughman

  • October 23, 2013

“Furniture that is too obviously designed is very interesting, but too often belongs only in museums.”   Milo Baughman

Sixty years ago, a couple of cats started collaborating, and in doing so, changed the face of the world of modern design. Said cats were Mr. Thayer Coggin [maker] and Mr. Milo Baughman [designer], and their impact on the mid-century modern era of furniture was an incredible and lasting one. To say their work was influential is a glaring understatement; the designs are as enduring as they are fetching [think the Draper Chair], and designers today continue to mold in the likeness of their lasting legacy. For those reasons and a thousand others [the Viceroy Recliner, the Scoop Chair, the Darren Sofa, etc.], we’re kinda giddy about this event.

On Wednesday, October 30th, a road show of sorts will bring the furniture of Thayer/Coggins to Forsey’s Furniture Galleries. “The national tour will feature 21 of the most noted designs that Milo Baughman created exclusively for Thayer Coggin,” said Mrs. Royale Coggin Wiggin, president of the company.  “My father, Thayer, and Milo had a special relationship for 50 years, collaborating on some ground-breaking designs that remain cornerstones in American-made, contemporary furniture. In celebration of our 60th anniversary, we are taking these design classics to furniture showrooms across the country.” Sounds sensational to us. Hors d’oeuvres will be on hand, but seating is limited, and RSVP is preferred, so best to jump on it now. You’re not likely to see this phenomenal gang of designs in one place again.

    Wednesday, October 30th, 5:20 – 8:30pm | Forsey’s Furniture Galleries, 2977 Highland Drive | RSVP to 801.487.0777
