    Our Opinion: The Belvedere is loaded with history, and it’s got a fair bit of prominent architectural significance in Salt Lake City. Built in 1919 by the LDS Church, The Belvedere was originally a hotel, generally meant for longer stays, and was sometimes referred to as The Belvedere Hotel Apartments. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, and was converted to condos in 1978. Back in its hotel days, there was 24-hour room service from the diner on the main level, a doorman, a ballroom, and a swanky billiards room and library. In 1919, The ‘Bel’ was the first all-electric building in SLC, and it was the first building in SLC to have an elevator [note the European floor numbering]. Fast forward to today — most individual units are still decked out with the original crown moldings and oversized base boards, open floor plans, and high ceilings. Walking into The Belvedere is akin to arriving at a 5 star hotel. The entrance is grand with a long, formally-draped entrance. A large leaded glass door with engraved “B”s leads to the lobby that features harlequin black and white marble flooring. Large crystal chandelier sparkling against a tray ceiling, lit and lined with mirrors? Yes. Accented by the mirrored walls? Yes. A winning choice for all city folk, it’s just across from City Creek, next to Harmon’s, very near the Capitol, TRAX, food, drink, etc.
