Our cityhomeDESIGN team is ever searching for those pieces that serve to perfect a home--for the matter that matters. So, in the spirit of getting reflective, we asked them to highlight a few of their favorite mirrors. S'the perfect way to see more of you in your space...
1. Jenny Nordberg Mirror
Morgan Victorine: "This mirror has an organic aspect that plays off the simplicity of its standard shape. Moments of varied opacity create visual depth and movement, and turn a simple mirror into an art piece for interaction from different angles."
2. Transcience Mirror Circle by David Derksen & Lex Pott
Susannah Holmberg: "As a designer, I’m often looking for irreverent pieces, and this mirror has just enough California cool to give a space the right amount of edge. Mirrors wear many hats in a design--not only do they create the illusion of space and light, but they also have the ability to impart a sense of the supernatural. Not only do they reflect, but they’re also works of art. I love this mirror because it is so unabashedly all of these things."
3. Drift & Sand Mirror by Fernando Mastrangelo
Lauren Bald: "I have always been a fan of imperfections. I feel like they make things more interesting. These one-of-a-kind mirrors are made by layering hand-dyed sand to create unique textures. They are all perfectly rugged and perfectly imperfect with a layer of softness and sophistication."
4. Slim Archway Mirror by Bower Studios
Rebecca Loosli: "I like that this playful mirror calls for a double take--it might appear as an arched opening at first. A closer look reveals a tinted mirror edge with a subtle wood frame. I think a piece like this has a high-brow fun-house vibe that could work in so many spaces."
5. Cylinder Mirror by Bower Studios
Jordan Geurts: "I love that this mirror has both a contemporary and art deco feel. The piece is customizable with potential for a different glass, frame, and finish choices, which means you can adjust for your space--but it also functions perfectly as both a mirror and a piece of art."
6. June Floor Mirror by Coil & Drift
Bre Snow: "Stunning and simple. Loving the curves in rich walnut. It's a perfect marraige of old charm and new style."
7. Pressed Mirror by Floris Wubbin
Brea Valenzuela: "As designers, we're continuously experimenting with ways to bring natural elements to an indoor space. Works like this allow us to create an atmosphere that feels both organic and precise. This mirror bridges the gap between functional products and a sculptural peice. Floris Wubben has carved a unique path in the creation of ceramics by creating a self-developed extrusion machine, allowing them to create one of a kind ceramics that are the product of combined mechanical and handmade efforts."
8. Ebonized Sorcerer's Mirror by Blackman Cruz
Cody Derrick: "Leave it to me to fall in love with a mirror that doesn't 'work'. But mirrors are not always meant to reflect our faces. Sometimes its nice to place a mirror with the function to reflect light, add interest, simply act as art, or inspire touch. This piece accomplishes all of that while providing the perfect scale and shape to anchor a site line that offers the apearance of looking past the room and into another world."
9. Pepe Marble Mirror by Studiopepe
Pamela Jewell: "I love the minimal and simple lines, while the craftsmanship is detailed and precise. The silhouette is modern, classic and purposeful. Designed by a female-owned studio with intent to withstand ever-changing trends using quality materials. Easy beauty!"
10. Late 18th C Roman Gilt Mirror with Lion Head (1stdibs)
Helena Morozoff: "Essentially any over-sized mirror from a good vintage/antique shop would do (or if it happens to be passed down from one generation to another, even better). The reason I'm particularly drawn to them (aside from childhood nostalgia) is because of their ability to completely transform the spaces by making them seem significantly larger and brighter. And, since most vintage mirrors are not alike, I love the sense of character and individuality they bring into a space."
