Quint-Essentials | Bar-Made Beauties

Ever since the recent passing of Daylight Saving Time (hallelujah!), we’re feeling some type of summery way, and—since we’ve all been afforded a few more post-work hours of daylight—it’s all our crew can do to keep from punching out at 5:00 sharp, heading straight to our favorite local haunt, grabbing a few seats at the bar, and ordering up a round of keep ‘em coming

There are few things that symbolize the end of a work day quite like the act of bellying up. And while we know we ought not to count on consistently-warmer weather just yet, we thought we’d run with our recent surge in springtime-cocktail-hour vibes and sift through a few or our favorite barstools. We do so love a well-designed sitting spot—and you so love a good listicle—so we’re bringing you a few of the best places for sittin' pretty in this latest installment of Quint-Essentials. Five beautifully-appointed barstools, hot ’n’ fresh out the archives. Have a seat, stay a while, and allow us serve you up somethin’ to soothe your soul…

1) Marathon House

A few simple, black seats are the perfect ellipses to punctuate this clean and bright kitchen. With a visible grain and a shape that’s polished-yet-organic, we think these stools are a lovely reflection of the home in which they sit. See, this modern masterpiece—all clean lines and slick design—is sat up in Emigration Canyon, meaning its stark form is enveloped in a full bear hug, courtesy of Mother Nature. It’s modern, minimal magic, and it’s magnificent. Full story here.

2) Tire Town

This downtown loft (in one of SLC’s arguably-most coveted condo spaces, the Firestone Building), was a cityhomeDESIGN project, so we’re enamored with it two-fold. Warm woods perfectly complement the worn-in, industrial feel of the space, but we particularly love the way these stools toe the delicate balance between soft and strong. Delicately-modern metal holds up a minimally-messed-with wood seat, and it’s a clear case of form + function working together fabulously. Full story here.

3) The Dinosaur House

This eclectic hideaway can be found alongside one of our all-time favorite 9th & 9th homes. The brilliantly-designed bar area is the perfect refuge from city life, and we love the way the woven checkerboard pattern of these chairs harmonizes with the Moroccan tile of the counter. The result is a beautiful, diverse, never-too-matchy-matchy interpretation of more actually being more. Full story here.

4) HSL

Yes, we helped design the interior of this Salt Lake bistro, but we feel like this beautiful bar set-up can stand on its own just fine. The organic vibe harkens to some hidden, oceanside cantina, and we think the stools here—which are a brilliant mix of modern form and bohemian weave-work—are just the right juxtaposition of high and low. They’re striking. They’re comfy. And you don’t even have to use your vacation days to enjoy ‘em. Full story here.

5) Commonwealth House

Another cityhomeDESIGN project, this well-balanced remodel pulls influences from new, old, east, and west. These copper-plated, laser-cut stools are just the right bit of modern geometry to ground the more playful backsplash and light fixtures of the kitchen. The razor-thin metal is a stunning revelation, resulting in some of the most beautiful origami we’ve ever seen. Full story here.
