Find Your Space | Vol. Eleven

YOUR HOME IS YOUR SANCTUARY. WE SUGGEST YOU OWN IT.

We fancy ourselves a bit of a ragtag bunch, but we’re a COLLECTIVE for a reason. We know that family is sometimes made rather than given upon birth, and we’ll proudly wear that brotherly badge for you all. Though our colors, creeds, and hometowns may differ, we are one. It’s like that old U.S.A motto, really: E pluribus unum. Out of many, one. Or, in the immortal words of Sister Sledge, “We are family. Get up everybody and sing.” Yes, we’re individuals, but we are united by a few principles. We believe in loving thy neighbor (and thy neighborhood while thy’s at it). We believe that “the good life” starts at home. We believe in finding the space that suits you, and not resting until you do. And it’s because we are a COLLECTIVE of many that we know that space is different for everyone. But that’s part of the fun–and it’s precisely why we look forward to the quarterly Find Your Space ad campaign so very much. In each ad of its kind, we unveil the fabulous space of some of our (equally fabulous) client pals. These are folks we’ve helped to find said space, in some aspect or another: either buyingselling, or designing. Sometimes we’ve helped them with a mixture of all three, and sometimes they work for us. Matching people to their perfect home is a passion of ours, so when those people happen to share an open concept office workspace with us, well, all the better.

A more dynamic duo you’d be hard-pressed to find.

Chances are you’ve seen these ladies’ labors on this very website. (We’d link to the evidence, but you can just take your pick of nearly any story posted on this site.) One’s got a keen eye for the written word and the other’s equipped with a savvy for snapping photos, but together, the’ve whipped our COLLECTIVE content into artfully-styled and eloquent shape. They’re our Bowie and Iman. Our Bey and Jay. Our salt & vinegar. One complements the other so nicely, that they seem to work as one. So, when it came time for our Editor, Amy Tibbals, and her girlfriend/our resident photographer, Kerri Fukui (aka @japanese_hair_farmer), to set out on the hunt for a home, we knew it might be a tall order. Cody (@codyvaughnderrick) was tasked with finding a clean, storefront-style modern with loads of natural light, just enough privacy, and a cute-but-manageable back yard. But since unique homes are kind of our gig, we managed to find the perfect spot. Updated within, storefront without, located on an assuming block of Rose Park. Home.

As with all shoots of the sort, the day was inspired by the gals and the home in equal parts.

It’s been a labor of love, but Amy and Kerri have crafted the perfect blend of clean and cozy. Cement floors, high ceilings, and a wash of natural light mix perfectly with crisp photography, local art, and a few pop-culture pieces peppered in for good measure. The first hint of autumn was on the wind, but the whiskey kept us warm. The wardrobe and tunes (Hall & Oats or Future Islands are both a safe bet here) spoke to the ladies’ cool-but-approachable style, and we think the result is as effortlessly bad-ass as they are. Malissa Maybe (@lissmabey) shot behind-the-scenes stills, and George Oakley (@george._.oakley) snapped the winning shot (which you’ll find deliciously splashed across the pages of Utah Style & Design‘s fall issue). But the cherry on top? Ace cinematographer Pat Fenelon (@patfenelon) filmed our first ever behind-the-scenes video, and it’s safe to say we’re smitten with the result. See, we think the real magic of these ads lies in getting to see our clients being unequivocally themselves in a space that suits them. Because when it comes to finding your space, one should never compromise. One should simply own it.
