We'll undoubtedly have many things to say about this structure in coming stories. The Eccles Theater--officially, the George S. and Delores Doré Eccles Theater--will open its doors in less than 40 days, and if a stunning exterior facade is any indication of operational standards, the whole of our little city is in for something fantastic. At this point, having never been past her lovely lobby, we're happy to just assume the best. BUT…we think the measure of a proper theater also lies in those acts she brings to town even before the first patron has handed her ticket to the usher. And if we're correct in that assumption, then Eccles is off to a swimming start in Salt Lake City.

Just 35 days 'til the lobby is bustling with ladies and gents in double-breasted vests, rolled stockings, Marcel waves, Oxfords, and straw boaters (we know it's not 1923, but leave us alone…we can dream). 35 days until Main Street takes another huge leap toward her flashy past, flooded in neon signs and lively locals. And 35 days until the new space can begin hosting said locals for a line-up of events that is likely to excite nearly all of us in some way or another. Click the link below to see the roster in its entirety, but allow us to spotlight a few acts coming to town that have us COLLECTIVELY giddy. The Head & the Heart, Amos Lee, and Morrissey (sigh) will each grace us with their presences before the Thanksgiving holiday, which is gratitude inducing, no doubt. Coming theatrical endeavors include Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Mamma Mia, Disney's The Lion King, and Dirty Dancing ("you just put your pickle on everybody's plate, college boy…"). Oh, and we plan to get our tickets IMMEDIATELY for the genius that is Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson and Mr. David Sedaris, as astrophysics and biting wit happen to be two of our very favorite things. Ultimately, we're just giving you a wee peek at what's coming. The complete list of talent that will be taking the stage in this gorgeous building is impressive, and to that, we give a COLLECTIVE, "Cheers! Hear, hear! And huzzah!"
