Christmas Art Adoption | 2014

12/8/2014 |

Since this coming Saturday actually looks to be serving up some winter weather, we're gonna go ahead and ask you to buck up: throw on your scarf and gloves, and get out to support the 6th Annual Art Adoption. We've yapped about this event several times, so if you've been paying attention you know the deal. For those unsure, we'll tell you again: twice each year, Art Adoption is hosted so that local artists can share ‘orphan art’ in the interest of enabling them to continue pursing their passion. It's an active attempt to spread some creative love, and it's the perfect spot for you to spend some holiday cash on your co-workers, your chums, your dad and your mum.

At each adoption, artists get the chance to show their wares and the public gets the chance to purchase said art at a modest price. Everybody wins. There is no fee associated with the event, and each artist receives 95% of the profits. This holiday season, the event will feature an all-time high of over 40 artists [see the full list on the flyer below]. Print, paint, pottery, jewelry--mediums of all kind for you to choose from here, kids. Something for everyone. And that's not even the best part. As ever, Josh Scheuerman [a.k.a. sensational, giving guy that runs this show] knows that it's about more than enabling creative expression and offering affordable art on a local level. He also aims to raise awareness and gather donations for worthwhile causes in the community. To that end, we can all pony up for a few different reasons: clothing donations will be accepted for the Volunteers of America Homeless Youth Resource Center and non-perishable food donations will be accepted for The Road Home. But there's one more cause that Art Adoption will be supporting…an actual human adoption, that is. Yup. Each participating artist has been asked to set aside one (1) piece of work, the proceeds of which will go directly to a local couple in their adoption efforts. This year's event will go off on Saturday, the 13th, at the Salt Lake City Photo Collective [561 W 200 S, 84101]. From 7:00 to 11:00pm, come mingle, talk art, and purchase some incredible work from local artists. Oh, yeah: thanks to the Photo Collective hosts, attendees can also have their shots taken, after which they’ll be available for purchase [perfect for your holiday cards, people]. Get out, get art, give good.
