    Neighborhood: Herriman

Property Profile: 9,090 sq. ft. | 4 bed, 4.5 bath

Our Opinion: Why do so many of us choose to make Utah home? Lots of reasons. Our strong sense of community, the stunning scenery and countless outdoor recreation opportunities. Oh, and relative affordability (have you seen what a house costs in San Francisco lately?). All good reasons to check out this remarkable home on Friendship Drive in Herriman. We’re not going to call it a mansion–that makes us think of a cold, dusty, potentially-haunted spot. Nooo, no. This place draws you in (in the non-spooky way), then offers you a cool drink and a pleasant breeze. The home is set back from the street a ways, and if you follow the idyllic, winding, tree-lined driveway, you’ll be met by a waterfall. Just past the grand entryway, a great room adjoins the open kitchen that is calling—nay, begging—for parties with friends. From there, the home flows perfectly out back onto a covered patio (with outdoor fireplace, of course), then to the gorgeous, terraced back yard, and finally right into the foothills. Yessiree. There’s nothing behind this house but rugged Utah mountains, jaw-dropping views, and the launching point for your next off-trail ramble with Fido. In a grand, custom house like this one, you’d be right to expect high-end finishes and top-notch appliances…and it’s certainly loaded with those. But what really strikes us is how smart this home is. We’re talking about fingertip control of security, lights, ceiling fans, irrigation, garage doors, thermostats, TV/audio–all from the convenience of your phone or tablet. So, theoretically, you could turn off the kitchen lights while you’re catching rays on the beach in Thailand. Not that you would. But you could. There’s plenty of room exactly as is in this home (that includes the garage…space for your cars, as well as your toys, and an extra-tall RV spot). But–should you need some extra room to grow–there’s an extensive unfinished basement, with framing already in place for additional bedrooms, bathrooms, and laundry (not to mention a home theater, gym, and football field-size rumpus room). If you can’t fit into this one, it may be time to start pricing airport hangars out. Size aside, however, this one’s got style, luxury, grace, and a price tag that strikes us as “pretty darn reasonable.”
