While we do herald many of the shiny and new aspects of this dreamy little slice of America we call home (see here and here), we're also quite keen on the older gems. Those vintage spots that harken back to a time when SLC was just putting down her roots tug hard on our heartstrings, and we proudly commend those locals that strive to keep those historical spaces around. It's no secret how much we love up on the Utah Heritage Foundation--their year-round efforts to fight the good fight of keeping historic structures standing do not go unnoticed by yours truly. The organization spreads the good word on good architecture and spearheads a campaign to keep the folks of Salt Lake educated on the historical integrity of some seriously slick homes and buildings. The UHF plays a huge role in the paying of respects to SLC’s most praiseworthy buildings (and, on the hip side, they hold one of our nearest and dearest institutions, Salt Lake Modern, under their worthy umbrella). Their preservation efforts are A+, and springtime marks their annual Heritage Awards Dinner, wherein they seek to give snaps to “building owners, companies and individuals who have shown the highest standard of preservation in their projects”, as well as “recognize those projects, organizations, agencies, and individuals that exemplify the highest standards within the preservation movement”. The folks honored here are top notch, in our COLLECTIVE opinion, and deserve full praise for their preservation efforts. This year’s dinner will take place at The Falls at Trolley Square on Thursday, March 31st at 6:00pm (apropos, we think, given the historical significance of Trolley Square). The evening will consist of cocktails, a meet and greet, dinner, and loads of earned applause for 2016’s Heritage Award winners.

We happen to think our streets look best when they're dressed in new and old pieces, and the UHF plays a huge part in keeping those vintage spaces around for future generations to ogle, admire, and be inspired by.  Oh so much of that old is good as gold.
