Our Opinion: Sitting high above the city on its Foothill perch, you’ll find this enchanting-yet-stately contemporary, hugged on all sides by a wash of fitting flora. Upon approach, the landscaping and pagoda-esque roof lend a regal air to the space, and–upon closer inspection–the custom, travertine stone exterior only adds to the allure. A pair of striking and well-placed front doors reveal a space that’s filled to the (vaulted) ceilings with natural light and tranquil vibes. The stark white walls not only help to bounce said natural light happily around the home, but they make the perfect gallery-esque walls for whatever art you choose to fill it with (whether that be Picasso or Polaroids). In the main sitting area, the dreamy travertine floors connect beautifully to the (dreamier still) travertine fireplace, and the space connects to both the upstairs balcony and the formal dining room. The kitchen connects seamlessly to another (less formal, no less beautiful) eating area, as well as a sitting room, all of which boast a few walls of windows to welcome in the outdoors. Translation: easy, breezy entertainment. The space, designed in 1993 by Kevin Watts (of Watts Architects), also holds an exercise space, a handful of walk-in closets, custom walnut built-ins, and handsome hardwood and radiant-heated travertine floors throughout. There’s a certain calmness here, due in no small part, we suspect, to the connection to the outdoors in every room (seriously, the landscaping is no joke). With its own waterfall and pond, the back patio is totally private (and totally zen), and the front porch hosts nightly light shows the likes of which you’ll never tire (see: epic sunsets). Looking for a private perch with all the perks? You just found it.
