    Our Opinion: Federal Heights is one of our favorite COLLECTIVE neighborhoods, and it’s no surprise why. Its streets are lined with mature trees and dotted with stately lampposts, and with its dazzling (and diverse) array of homes, this little alcove is one of Salt Lake’s most prestigious and sought after. A home this sweet on this street is a treat, indeed (and we think the current owner, one Mayor Ralph Becker, will attest to the same). A charming brick tudor is as timeless a beauty as Paul Newman walking a border collie through a vineyard, so we don’t expect you’ll need much “talking into” with this one. She’s one of Federal Heights’ finest, with quality finishes, construction, and character in spades (case in point: the main entertaining space holds handsome hardwood floors and a barrel vault ceiling–swoon). Those looking to warm up will find two firesides (one gas, one wood-burning), a steam room (ideal for après-ski), and a heated work shed/gear room attached to the garage. There’s natural light aplenty in this space, due in no small part to the (original) leaded glass windows, as well as original crown molding in the main living space (remodeled rooms show a consistency in style that make the molding fluid throughout). Downstairs you’ll find more fully-finished space, and with a functioning kitchenette, this spot could easily work as a mother-in-law. The charmingly-sized upstairs kitchen connects with an equally charming breakfast nook, complete with bay window, which looks out into the unbelievably charming outdoor space. Completely landscaped, and completely private, this space begs for candle-lit soirees year round.
